Hi! I\'m new and have all kinds of questions. - Lysander_of_Athens - 08-15-2011 Greetings fellow Greeks and anyone else reading this. I've started doing some reenactment events this year and I finally complete my first crafting project (a pair of sandals). So now I want to get into this action. I've been doing (as best as I can) Athenian reenactment and I'm trying to get a proper kit together. So my main question is this: what do I need? My usual kit is my sandals, a tunic with a belt around it, and a himation. Since most the garb is borrowed from my Celtic buddy I don't often get those bright Greek colors, but I can fix that easily enough. For my next project, which I know is a bit ambitious, I'd like to try making a linothorax. Is there a tutorial somewhere I can get on line? Oh, and in terms of era, I do a lot of stuff with 1st century BC Celts. I know Greece had been conquered by the Romans by now so... I guess my kit should be pre-Alexandrian? Thanks for the help. Kind regards Re: Hi! I\'m new and have all kinds of questions. - Giannis K. Hoplite - 08-15-2011 Hello Jessy and welcome to the forum! The beginers sectioms that Stefanos posted above will surely have many answers to many questions. More specifically about the thorax, there is a lot to read here in RAT: The material of the cuirass has been extensively discussed in many threads, this one is rather inclusive: http://www.romanarmytalk.com/rat.html?func=view&catid=19&id=231412 Don't read only the first page, but don't read only the last either. You need to form an opinion on you own, since the arguement is still on. This thread summarises the current popular views well: http://www.romanarmytalk.com/rat.html?func=view&catid=63&id=268157 On the making, there are a number of threads. Here are some: http://www.romanarmytalk.com/rat.html?func=view&catid=63&id=266447 http://www.romanarmytalk.com/rat.html?func=view&catid=63&id=271225#272126 http://www.romanarmytalk.com/rat.html?func=view&catid=63&id=278434&limit=20&start=20#290019 And i almost forgot this one: http://www.romanarmytalk.com/rat.html?func=view&catid=63&id=231445 Also, have a look at Matthew Amt's Greek Hoplite page on the legio XX website. You will find useful tips on building your armour. On clothing: http://www.romanarmytalk.com/rat.html?func=view&catid=63&id=249221 Could you post a photo of your sandals, and one with all your clothing on? There is a apropriate thread for this.
