Linothorax tested against bow and arrow - Eleatic Guest - 03-30-2011 The experimenters seemed to be pretty impressed by its defensive and practical qualities: Test in Spiegel Online Quote:Im Test verglichen die Wissenschaftler Stoffe aus 11, 15 und 20 Schichten. I wonder which scholarly publication they refer to. We've been over all this quite a bit. Oh, well. I also love the part in that second link that a bronze cuirass weighed 25 pounds! More like 6 to 8, less than their "glued linothorax". However, that post was from 2 years ago! Many of us have changed our opinions since then. Khairete! Matthew Re: Linothorax tested against bow and arrow - Dan Howard - 04-02-2011 Yep. In order to justify a test piece of glued linen, someone first has to demonstrate that glue was actually historically used in this construction. If nothing can be found in a Greek context then a comparable example from another culture needs to be produced. If there aren't any physical examples then produce a document that even implies that glue was used. Nobody has done so yet. Every example of layered textile armour from any time period and any culture was quilted, not glued. Shooting arrows at glued linen tells us nothing about historical armour. It is even worse for Greek armour since the little evidence we have of this armour (tube and yoke) suggests that it was made of leather, not linen. |
