Modeling the Imago of our Legion! - Dany Boy - 03-02-2011

AVE OMNES
This is how the story of modeling the Imago of our LEGION IIII SCYTHICA started.
In spite of that I have some small experience doing and remodeling scale figures I never told I will be responsible to make bust model of Roman Emperor!
After we discussed this subject in our club, my twin brother insists about Mighty Claudius to be our IMAGO-Standard.
This idea sounds very good to me too and here we go!

I don’t know how you find my work but my job is done and my brother already start his part working over our Imago, as he is in charged of doing the torso because we wish to have brass copy of Claudius bust.
At this time I will try to find time and finish two of the busts which are needed for our Legion Standard to be completed!

These two will be very small and I don’t plan to make them in to deep details as we are really press for time.
The third and the most important one from this Trinity have been finished already by Rado.
VALE BENE

IIII Scythica is first testified as in occupation in Moesia by inscriptions in 33 CE, when this area was organized as a province, replacing the previous Macedonian military command, by Tiberius in the beginning of his government. By indication of Tacitus, a transfer of IIII Scythica to the Rhine has been assumed in many cases to have occurred at the beginning of the reign of Claudius to reinforce the oriental army(Tac. ann. XIII 35).So we decided our main Imago to be Imp Clavdivs.

My brother Jordan works mainly on this model.Taking into account facial features and the specific terms of the Emperor from many other images of Clavdivs which are published on the web.

Jordan made a great resemblance to the actual image. This is his entirely original author work. The process of making was very slow.

My humble assistance is expressed in Development of oak wreath which is characterized by the fact that is used by the whole family of August, both the statues and the coin Reversi.Oak wreath is symbol of their royal power.

I also did the medusa gorgon. As I tried to get closer to the original. In preparing a wax model is used 5 types of wax each has different characteristics of hardness and plasticity.I met many difficulties with the cloak Smile. To look more natural.

In developing of Lorica Squamata I used another type of wax to be able to reproduce the good form of plates.I think I approached the look of the fibula from statue and the buckle of Lorica Squamata.I hope we can see them soon finished cast in bronze.

Re: Modeling the Imago of our Legion! - Rado - 03-03-2011

After a long time I looking to buy a ready-madestatue of emperors (one of them must be Avgvstvs)from some European shop around 10/15 cm.I could not find a product that is in good quality on these dimensions.Materials that are available on the web sites for imperial busts are mostly plastic or resin. This option do not satisfied us.So me and my brother we decided to do the busts and the Imago of Avgvstvs for our legionary Standards..alone.

Like this bust of August, which is 135 mm high and is hollow from inside. This will be one of the emperors on our legionary heraldic flags.

Re: Modeling the Imago of our Legion! - Rado - 03-03-2011

Due to the small size of the bust it very difficult to achieve the smal details of the hair, face and bumper.

Re: Modeling the Imago of our Legion! - Rado - 03-08-2011

Thank you friends for the kind wordsSmile. There were some things that I wanted to fix in Clavdivs bust. Details like cloak, clasp of the Lorica Squamata (lion head).
