Ancient Necklace Clasps - Gregory J. Liebau - 03-02-2011

Hello RAT,

I'm researching Minoan and Mycenaean jewelry and am having trouble finding any evidence of metallic necklace clasps. For reconstruction's sake, it would be easier to use a clasp than to tie the necklace in place every time it is put on, but I do not wish to deviate much from history. I have found a style of hook and eye clasp decorated with Dolphins that dates to the 3rd century BC in Greece, but have been unable to locate any earlier examples, even without decoration. Can anyone help direct me towards the appropriate information that I need to figure out whether or not the bronze age Greeks used clasps? Thanks in advance, and cheers!
