Roman pewter - jkaler48 - 10-02-2010 Seems to be rarely found but what period would be most appropriate for pewter items. Found this info so far: http://www.wessexarch.co.uk/projects/ca ... ewter.html Re: Roman pewter - SCIPIO_HADRIANVS - 10-14-2010 Hi there, Im not exaclty sure about that. From what I have read it has been used since the Bronze age and used of course in by the Romans. Access to pewter contributed, among others, a reason to invade Britain (if Im not mistaken). It became more commonly used in the middle ages and could only be afforded by rich people. The church also used them for their various relgious purposes. Populairity declined around the 18th and 19th Century probably due to the increase in populairity of glassware. Hope that answers your question, SCIPIO_HADRANVS http://www.pewter-pleasure.com/pewter-history.html This site might be useful.
