Re: Comitatus at Sledmere House 12th/13th June - John Conyard - 06-10-2010

I am really looking forward to this and being planning it since last July. We have seven good horses, saddles and riders, plus infantry to target. Every thing will be perfect. Big Grin

Bring some kit and we will stick you in a tent by the fire. I am planning a throne covered in fur watching the evening entertainment with horses as neighbours.

What kind of kit in particular.. most of mine is imperial early, although I have the odd bit of later....

Re: Comitatus at Sledmere House 12th/13th June - John Conyard - 06-10-2010

Well, this is a straight AD 410 event for us. But we have lots of new recruits and various bits of spare kit will be knocking around to use. It is our annual pay parde and we will have our best kit with us for a change.

Some of our horses will be right in the tent lines with us, and it will be a real treat to be sleeping and eating beside Hal and Murph. I have a dream of getting up early to ride Hal up to the top of the deer park to watch the sun rise. And Hal will keep me awake fighting the other horses.

I am still off line so cannot view the photos or footage which is frustrating. But iit was awesome to be part of these displays. At times the riders were really on the edge. It was fantastic and will stay with me for a long time.

Great footage! Seven cavalry indeed, what a sight to behold.
But.. just 6 infantry? I wish I would live in your area and get a chance to strengthen the foot. Big Grin

Re: Comitatus at Sledmere House 12th/13th June - John Conyard - 06-15-2010

Well that is 6 infantry receiving arrows plus others handing stuff to the cavalrymen, in the camp etc. But I agree, more would be great. Luckily such shows guarantee a source of new recruits Big Grin So hopefully more targets at the next event.

We could put out an extra cavalryman without straining resources but it is better to work within ourselves. Because of the stallion we had two paddocks, and even horses within the tent lines with authentic ropes, water buckets etc. I could actually open up my tent and share breakfast with my horse. At first just trying to tack up the horses and riders was a struggle in 53 minutes, but we soon had the time down to a respectable half an hour.

Every rider had their own personal struggle over the weekend. These made the shows really exciting and rather than riding within ourselves some of us were really on the edge. It was truly exciting, and I have seen a view cavalry shows. I will write more in the cavalry thread.

We even had Byron down from north of the Wall for a day. It was a pleasure to host him. He has a sexy voice!

We have hundreds of photos of this event. I am just back on the internet so I will see if I can post some up. Though it may take some time to figure out the new super computer.
