Deadliest Warrior - Gaius Octavius Drusus - 05-20-2010

Avete Fraterii:

Next week's episode has a Roman centurion vs a Rajput Warrior. Your opinions? I view DW as being entertainingly bad science. How bad, you might ask? Try 'Plan 9 from Outer Space' bad.

I"m far from being an expert on the training, equipment and other abilities of various ancient soldiers. However, from what I read both in ancient and modern writings, the strength of the roman army was mainly in the "menagement". That is the logistics, chain of command, disciplin, uniformity, strategy ect.. From what I read, it seems the choise of equipment was influenced by cost. So it probably wasn't the best.

Re: Deadliest Warrior - QVINTVS ARTORIVS CORVINVS - 05-27-2010

Since when did the Dolabra become a primary weapon ???
and since when did butted Maille become the choice of Centurions???

Honestly, when are they going to get people on there that actually know what they are talking about!

I disliked this one almost as much as the one where they paired a Spartan against a Ninja... No contest. Ninja waits till Spartan is asleep and kills him. The end. They are not front line fighters to stand mano-et-mano with a heavily armoured opponent. They weren't that stupid.

Re: Deadliest Warrior - Timotheus - 07-06-2010

This show is beyond ignorant at every level. The "experts" are far from it. Few of them have a clue how to use the weapons properly. The "simulation" software is throw together crap and little more than an excel spreadsheet being run by a guy who created a video game company.

The entire show is a farce which fits perfectly onto a channel as idiotoc as Spike TV.

Re: Deadliest Warrior - P Sertorius Scaevola - 09-24-2010

Juck! I watched part of the episode last week and apart from decent coverage of Depeeka crap there wasn't much to it. Needless to say the chosen Roman expert performed as solidly as his equipment. The catapulta as individually used long range weapon was hilarious too, especially given the arena of the final battle... The Rajput warrior on the other hand was interesting, most capable in the use of his tools of choice too!
