Imperial gallic - new version of old work - Nieczar - 01-02-2010

hello

here's my new imperial-gallic helmet ...it's some variation of oryginal stuff from Meinz
...this one is welded (3 pieces - the bowl with neck-guard)

however I made hammered surface only (similar to many oryginal helmets) ...in my opinion it looks much better for this kind of the helmet than smooth satin surface - popular in reenacment Smile ) D

"V" sighns on the cheekpieces are made for customer's wish

Very nice work again Patryk!

Re: Imperial gallic - new version of old work - john m roberts - 01-02-2010

I notice you've made the earguards from iron. Is that from a specific example?

Re: Imperial gallic - new version of old work - jvrjenivs - 01-02-2010

I know of a Gallic D (Weisenau), destroyed in WWII which has iron earguards, at least to the Lindenschmidt Paper describing it.

I believe the gallic F from Bescancon had iron earguards too.

I send you a PM!

thank You very much Big Grin

about earguards ...I think it's exactly as Jvrjenivs said Smile (

Re: Imperial gallic - new version of old work - Gaius Julius Caesar - 01-03-2010

I think Peronis or even Brian Stobbs may have a copy, but you would need to ask them.
So when are you going to attempt the brow chevrons? Smile

Re: Imperial gallic - new version of old work - jvrjenivs - 01-03-2010

Yeah, thats the helmet I was talking about. But there are also some errors in that drawing. The original had no visible rivets to attach the earguards and the crestsplate. It also has a rope style edge. (yeah, I'm working on a repro of that particular helmet myself, at the moment.)

Re: Imperial gallic - new version of old work - Nieczar - 01-03-2010

my helmet isn't copy of that helmet ...it's only some "free" variation ...so ,some deatails of oryginal construction wasn't importand for me Smile D

as I know there're "red stones " (coral ?) in oryginal stuff as rivets heads from rosetes-plates

I believe there are colour photographs of the Imperial Gallic 'D' helmet on the Armamentarium website.

That is really quite beautiful Patryk- very well done. And I completely agree about the imperfect finish- hand grinding sure wouldn't produce perfectly smooth surfaces, especially on a shape like a helmet

thank You Matt Big Grin

Here is the start of the edging of mine, which I just started working on:

wanted to do a rope style design, but thought about starting with a plain one instead, would be much better. Can always change it.
