Production of Roman coinage - Gaius Octavius Drusus - 08-02-2009 Avete fraterii: I am interested in knowing the methods used to strike Roman coinage, specifically, were the planchets hot-struck or cold-struck? How were the planchets themselves made? I have a number of reproduction sestertii made for me by Holger Ratsdorf, and they are around 1/4" thick. Were the planchets punched from a plate, or cut from the end of a bar? The thickness of silver denarii, gold aurei and bronze Asses doesn't seem to be a problem if they are punched from a plate Gaius Octavius Drusus Re: Production of Roman coinage - Nathan Beal - 08-05-2009 http://www.grunal.com/history.html |
