Christian Miks - aitor iriarte - 02-28-2005

Does anybody among the German RATers know how I could contact Christian Miks?
A Google search links him with the Köln University...
Many thanks
Aitor,

the university mailed me the following address:

Christian Miks
Römisch-Germanisches Zentralmuseum (RGZM)
Ernst-Ludwig-Platz 2
55116 Mainz
Tel. 49-6131-91240 (from Spain)
The RGZM has an own homepage 'www.rgzm.de' and the only email-connection may be with its manager for public work and communication, Mag. Dominik Kimmel, under
Re: Christian Miks - aitor iriarte - 03-01-2005

Many thanks, Uwe!
Mainz?! I supposed it should be Köln... If he works at the RGZM, then I'll e-mail Dr Künzl...
C. Miks has published a paper with another reconstruction of the cheiroballistra and I suspect that he is also involved in the reconstruction of the recently found manuballista frame at Xanten. As I understand that the original remains will be displayed at the RGM Köln and, there are direct flights from Bilbao to Köln,... I've started cherishing the possibility of a Blitztravel but not without making some preliminary contacts first...
Aitor,

after the 'Aitor Alert! Manuballista found!'-topic the remnants and the reconstruction will be shown in the RGM Köln indeed. The exhibition 'From the beginnings ...' starts on Sunday, March, 13th, and ends on August, 28th - click on 'Exhibitions':

The museum alone (standing just beside the famous cathedral "Dome of Cologne") deserves a visit. And it is surely better to make some preliminary contacts (some days ago I visited another museum to take a few photographs from a tumbstone only to hear that the Roman department was temporarily closed).

Have a nice flight to Germania inferior.
Re: Christian Miks - Praefectusclassis - 03-02-2005

Yup, it is there too that the newly found tombstone will be on display.
Maybe a small RAT get-together to view it all?
Greets
Re: Christian Miks - aitor iriarte - 03-02-2005

Oh, a temporary exhibition only! (My scarce and bad German!!)
In any case, I should settle some 'minor' matters about my job before I can have something to celebrate with a travel to Cologne...
In any case, your proposal is worthy of being fostered, Jasper!
Re: Christian Miks - Robert Vermaat - 03-02-2005

Indeed it is! Cologne is but a few hours by trian, and Andreas and myself would certainly like the possibility!
Valete,
Re: Christian Miks - Flavius Promotus - 03-03-2005

I have not visited my relatives at Cologne for quite a while. Maybe I should do something about it...
Plus meet some of you guys.

Aitor, what do you think of the Miks article ?

Best wishes

Re: Christian Miks - aitor iriarte - 03-05-2005

Flavius,
I have not read the paper, only have a look at the pics, mainly.
As a first overall impression, Miks has excessively complicated what, from the descripted components, should be a much simpler machine...
The thread about the Kölner visit has moved to Off-topic. Will be there more Dutchs than Germans?
Re: Christian Miks - Uwe Bahr - 03-06-2005

Aitor, don't worry, Cologne is still full of Germans

Re: Christian Miks - Praefectusclassis - 03-06-2005

Well, we'll make enough sound
Greets
Re: Christian Miks - aitor iriarte - 03-07-2005
