East Yorkshire was cold with a bitting wind.

A Scyth and a Greek cavalryman......somebody should write a book about that. Arrrggghhh!
Thank you for the comments, I suspect somewhat undeserved. But in case we put too many people off, riding as a Greek is very achievable. Kit could really just be a tunic and cloak. Weapons could really just be a couple of javelins. Just simple heads and decent shafts.
In terms of helmets an Illyrian, Pilos and Boeotian would just about span everything from Marathon to Alexander.
In terms of riding I suspect many of us could manage a simple straight line, throwing a couple of javelins on the way. Many cavalry shows are based on the riders doing simple straight lines. No expensive saddles are needed.
You could finish up with a very creditable interpretation of this, without too much effort.

I believe that a creditable Archaic Athenian Hippeis might be naked with a Chalmys, 2 javelins and a ptasos hat...
The thing is, once you buy and feed the horse, the cost of the rest of the kit isn't that high...

We done several reconstructions with this very cooperative horse.
The partisipants are all from Koryvantes group in Biskupin - Poland September 2011.
The rider had his archery and riding instruction from the Hellenic horseback archery society.
We were lucky and the horses had been trained by master Lagios Kassai last year.
