Whow, really great pics Big Grin
It must have been a nice event.

Yeah, it Indeed was a great event and wonderful experience walking in such a big group of Roman soldiers (which was only as big as a small Roman subunit). Pretty scary to imagine this was on the field many times next to each others back then. And yes, the weather was great, surely could have been worse, up north on the wall.

And Jan, good to see you up here!

Wonderful event and so good to meet so many other RAT members, not to mention all of the other re-enactors I had not seen for a while or met before. Credit must go to the organisers, who not only saw to all of the arrangements but also laid on some very good food and service for breakfast and dinner each day.

Fabius,

Actually some members of Coh V Galorum were there. Three of the Quinta members joined us in the RMRS 800 years of the Roman Army display.

Crispvs,

I must have missed them as I went to Vindolanda in the afternoon to see a Comitatus 4th C display. In any event they must have been heavily outnumbered by the vast 1st/2nd Century presence that's for sure

I second that... VERY COOL. I wish there were events like that around here (midwest).

Jan,

Please thank Wendy for allowing us you view her photos. I enjoyed seeing them and it allows fellow RAT'ers who were not there to get a chance to see them also.

Peroni,

Thanks for the addition of photos from the Pageant to this post which I unfortunately missed. I now wish I had stayed in the area for the weekend and covered the 3 days but having been caught out with advertising 'hype' before for such events that failed to live up to expectations I decided to go for the Friday only. I am very pleased to say that this event did come up to its billing and I hope if repeated will encourage groups/RAT'ers from Europe and the world who had such a positive experience at this event to consider again visiting the Hadrians Wall area for such a mass gathering in the future.

Indeed the photoseries (and movies) from Wendy are great. Was good to see how that body of men lookes from the outside when charging.

Thanks everyone who has posted photos. I can see myself in Peronis's last photo, proof to my missis that I was there.

This event was the biggest ( for Roman ) I had ever joined in. I enjoyed every bit of it, what an experience just to march with the Auxilliary. Roman comands with a French accent. I had to listen carefully. Those French lads were very friendly, humerous and full of enthusiasm for such a young group.

3rd Century - There was going to be 3 of us from Quinta at first but one of us had to go to work. The rest of my group were away on holidays or exams. The other 3rd century soldier who turned up to join in with the RMRS 800 year of the Roman soldiers was someone I had not met before, a friend of the RMRS.

I changed some of my kit for the big display and joined the Batavians.

Salvete Omnes!

One of the finest events ever, greatly due indeed to the diversity in the groups attending. The multilingual presense must be a proximate of what the legions were like with men drawn from just about everywhere. A special word of admiration for the XIIIIth who went to great lengths to blend in and make this into a very very enjoyable weekend!
I also liked the command group with the legate and wife and the senior Centurio from the XIIIIth, a welcome addition. Viewing the photo of the body of soldiers entering the arena almost makes you shiver as this was one of the largest groups ever assembled. Also noticable was that the thunder from the speakers made it next to impossible to hear let alone act on the commands and much was left to the individuals initiative. It is all due to this that we made a heck of an impression at the show. Good thing that we could check ourselves on the two enormous video walls Big Grin

At the Corbridge site there was a pleasant and very educational all day show by Heuristics, leading one through the wonders of ancient inventions and childrens games. It was inspirational!

A big thank you to all participants and especially to the organisers and Jon Hogan in particular!

Hello gents,

I found another photographer on the web, and he has given clearance to post the link to his photos on the web !

http://www.kodakgallery.co.uk/ShareLand ... leid=en_GB

You do have to create a Kodak account but this only takes 5 seconds ! (no weird activation emails what so ever if i remember correctly)

These photo's are really great and look really (semi)professional ! Also the photographer mentioned you can post a comment if you like or reconige yourself, he would really like that.

Enjoy !

Regards,

Jan Dijkstra
