Where can I find reconstruction Hellenistic thracian helm - Celtic505 - 04-28-2009 I can't seem to find the website that offers a reproduction of this particular thracian helmet: http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/7334/helmpo0.jpg Does anybody know where I can find it? I beleive it is sold under the title of "Hellenistic Helmet" but I've searched and searched and cannot find it anymore. I remember seeing it a year and a half ago so it definately exists, unless it has been discontinued. Anybody know anything about this? I appreciate any help. Thanks Re: Where can I find reconstruction Hellenistic thracian helm - Vitruvius - 04-28-2009 Ave Celtic 505, If you can't find it, I suggest that you check with Joe Piel of Lonely Mountain Forge as he has a splendid Thracian Helment. As soon as I can save up the money,I am going to order one. I'm not certain what his web address is, but perhaps one of our colleagues on the Board can tell you. I realize this isn't much help, but I'm at work and have about 4 minutes left on my break. Good Luck and please keep me informed on how it goes Salve Vitruvius a.k.a Larry Mager Re: Where can I find reconstruction Hellenistic thracian helm - Matthew Amt - 04-28-2009 Could it be the Deepeeka "Alexander the Great" helmet? AH6124, second row down on this page: http://www.deepeeka.co.in/helmet1.html One of my legionaries got one of these to use for later Thracian, Carthaginian, etc. But since it's a not-entirely-accurate translation of a not-entirely-accurate illustration in one of Connolly's books, he had to modify it some. It has the fixed ear pieces (plain, not embossed), small hinged earflaps, and the larger cheekpieces--with the result that the face is almost completely covered! He lopped off the fixed flaps, removed the small hinged ones, and moved the larger ones back. Much more workable helmet, now! Really a decent piece, with some tweaking. Now the challenge is to find a vendor that has it in stock, eh? Good luck! Matthew Re: Where can I find reconstruction Hellenistic thracian helm - Celtic505 - 04-28-2009 No it wasn't the Alexander helmet. Actually you can see a picture of the reconstructed helmet on the hetairoi.de website. One of their reenactors has it. Its a great reconstruction and probably one of my favorite helms, I remember it being expensive though, with a black crest too. I know the website sold a musculata too that was another amazing reproduction, I want to say they had the name fabricae in their title? But I cant find any website with that in their name that sells reenactor gear. It was such a long time ago its bugging me I cant remember it and I was hoping to perhaps get that helmet. I appreciate your guys responses though, hopefully somebody should remember or know what im talking about. Re: Where can I find reconstruction Hellenistic thracian helm - Perdiccas - 04-28-2009 Well, since your talking about my helmet I know pretty sure that you can buy it from Stefan Jaroschinski of Noricum Replikate. But I think he wanted international requests to go through Christian Koepfer's (he's caiustarquitius here on RAT) FABRICA AVGVSTANA, so you could just drop him a note and ask about it. As far as I know sadly Stefan doesn´t take new orders due to illness, but I´m sure Christian can give you a more up to date answer. Re: Where can I find reconstruction Hellenistic thracian helm - Celtic505 - 04-29-2009 hey thanks! I knew it was called fabrica something. I'll look into the international orders. Thats too bad about the illness, I hope its nothing serious. Re: Where can I find reconstruction Hellenistic thracian helm - Nearco - 05-24-2009 I am also in love with this helmet, and I have spent really looooooooooooooooong times looking for the pic of the original! Thank you!!!!! PDlease, could somebody tell me where can I find more pics of attic and thracian helmets? Thank you Re: Where can I find reconstruction Hellenistic thracian helm - Giannis K. Hoplite - 05-25-2009 This exact helmet has also been re-constructed by Joe Piela of the Lonely Mountain Forge http://www.lonelymountain.hoplologia.org/ Khaire Giannis Re: Where can I find reconstruction Hellenistic thracian helm - Untilatie - 05-26-2009 You can also try with Ferran Garreta. He made our brass Thracian helmet last year. His website is http://www.ferrangarreta.com Good luck! Re: Where can I find reconstruction Hellenistic thracian helm - Nieczar - 05-27-2009 Hello I think this kind of the helmet it's no problem for many makers Re: Where can I find reconstruction Hellenistic thracian helm - Theodosius the Great - 05-27-2009 Wow, I had no idea it was made in so many segments and then riveted together. It's not something I expected to see in Hellenistic times. ~Theo Re: Where can I find reconstruction Hellenistic thracian helm - Nieczar - 05-28-2009 yeah, it is interesting construction of the helmet ...it's rivated but looks like forged from the piece D are there some evidences this kind of the helmets could be brazed ? Re: Where can I find reconstruction Hellenistic thracian helm - Nearco - 08-25-2009 I would like to know if somebody knows where is the helmet that Celtic505 posted before. Some museum? maybe a private collection? Thanks Re: Where can I find reconstruction Hellenistic thracian helm - Perdiccas - 08-25-2009 It can be seen in the Louvre in Paris |
