Reconstructed roman face (possibly) - Gregg - 01-04-2009

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, and I'm also not sure if this should go under Archeology or Reconstruction, but here is one of those interesting cases where they take a human skull and attempt to reconstruct what the person would have looked like in life. In this case, a supposed Roman soldier from the fort at Newstead (Trimontium). Apparently the skull was found some years before Curle's excavations, and the web page only says it was found "near" the fort, so I'm not sure how accurate the identification is:

Cool.

Anyone know what size his head was?

Re: Reconstructed roman face (possibly) - Gaius Julius Caesar - 01-04-2009

He looks familiar! :? lol:

Re: Reconstructed roman face (possibly) - M. Demetrius - 01-04-2009

I think I may have met him a long time ago...back before my hair turned grey and then turned loose.

But I can't remember.

A tip of the pileus to those who can undertake such work and come up with a believable likeness. Some forensic folks have reconstructed faces of modern victims of foul play, and the families were able to identify the deceased! So this stuff really works sometimes.

Re: Reconstructed roman face (possibly) - Marcus F. - 01-05-2009

looks like a typical character from McBride-illustrations.

That's a Roman face (found among the Fayum portraits).

That's a Roman boxer by the looks of things!

Hey just because he looks like Rocky doesn't mean he was a boxer Smile Where do you think Stallone got his genes?

Re: Reconstructed roman face (possibly) - Arturus Uriconium - 01-09-2009

Ah... so that's Latin he speaks. No wonder I can't understand him,

Possibly from Levis?
