Roman war ship discovered in Cologne - Mar - 11-27-2008

Express Köln: Roman war ship

"15m beneath the surface of the "Alter Markt" the remains of a roman ship have been discovered. Not only the oldest, but the most interestening - its a war ship."

-found in Oktober
-dated to 15 AD
-20 - 100 persons (crew and soldiers)
-has been ruddered (possibly sailed too)
-metall shield protection covering the sides

Wow, it's remarkably well preserved, isn't it.....any soil analysis done?

Unbelievable that I unsuspectingly drank gallons of beer on top of a Roman war ship. Now I know what went wrong at carnival every year...I had been seasick! Big Grin

I guess the picture shows a reconstruction of one of the "Mainz Ships"
