Sad news -- the master of Polybian studies has died at the age of 98.
I was privileged to have shared his company at Brian Dobson's Roman Army Course (Durham University) in April 1987, where we were both amongst the contributors. I was honoured to have him inscribe my copy of The Hellenistic World, which I was leafing through only last night.
He leaves behind an exemplary body of work. Truly one of the greats.
