Dacians - Quintus Aurelius Lepidus - 09-26-2008 do you know if there are groups who reenact dacians ? where can you get a falx? it's one of my favourite weapons Re: dacians - Medicus matt - 09-26-2008 Quote:do you know if there are groups who reenact dacians ? David Simm makes a pretty mean falx, if the results of the cutting tests he did with it in Vol 11 of JRMES was anything to go by! Didn't Legio XX have a Dacian? Sure I saw a picture of him carving up a shield somewhere. Tricky to use 'safely' in a reenactment situation though...bit like having a DaneAxe...great weapon for tarting with but they just won't let you use it properly on the field. Re: Dacians - Peroni - 09-26-2008 There are some Romanians that reenact the Dacians.. See www.dacia.org and have a look at some of the Dacia Magazines. April 2008 is a good issue! Falx are available from Mark Morrow. http://www.swordsmith.net/roman.asp?gallery=roman Re: Dacians - Matthew Amt - 09-27-2008 Well, I wouldn't say Legio XX "has" a Dacian, but Steve Peffley comes to play with us whenever he can. And yes, he has a falx! http://www.larp.com/legioxx/falxcut1.jpg Made by Mark Morrow. I'm the one holding the other end of the beam that the test shield is resting on. It was exciting! It's also why we carry pila. Valete, Matthew Re: Dacians - Quintus Aurelius Lepidus - 09-27-2008 thanks! Re: Dacians - Na Saighdiuir - 09-27-2008 Great pic Matthew...a falx is a pretty nasty weapon to be facing,it makes that shield look like paper. PS the romans had cameras??my god we owe them so much D Re: Dacians - Quintus Aurelius Lepidus - 09-27-2008 yeah it's a really cool pic! Re: Dacians - arklore70 - 09-27-2008 Hmm, I wonder how long it took him to get his falx free of the scutum. No doubt about it, Mark Morrow makes a heck of a blade, be it gladius, pugio, or falx. Mike Re: Dacians - Marcus Mummius - 09-27-2008 Quote:Hmm, I wonder how long it took him to get his falx free of the scutum. A lot longer than it took the mates of the miles whose scutum was struck to cut him up with their gladii...
Re: dacians - The_Mariner - 11-01-2008 Quote:do you know if there are groups who reenact dacians ? When you get that working for you come see us at the XXXth, we did some work with the Dacians, As a matter of fact thats why we had to wear heavyer armour and helms with bands.... All in good fun! Re: Dacians - Magnus - 11-02-2008 Actually, it took him long enough to ram a gladius in his guts...A straight cut into the scutum would probably cause the blade to be lodged there...Not a good idea. Re: Dacians - Dain II. - 11-02-2008 [url:9foqlnsq]http://www.terradacica.ro/ greetings, Stephan Re: dacians - crandell - 11-14-2008 Quote:do you know if there are groups who reenact dacians ? Try to contact Catalin Boranjic. You can find his contact details at the Encyclopedia Dacica site http://www.enciclopedia-dacica.ro/ Or contact me off list and I'll put you in touch with him. He has made a lot of replica falxes and other weapons for the Dacian festival in Cricau. I know that the first falx he made was by hand from a bar of iron, but I'm not sure about the others that he makes for the festival. He's also published a few articles specifically about the falx. Otis Re: Dacians - Quintus Aurelius Lepidus - 11-18-2008 sorry for late reply but i was off on holiday. tnx! Re: dacians - Quintus Aurelius Lepidus - 05-18-2010 It took a while but I got my falx today! |
