I wanted to double check with you lovely people here to ensure that this looks authentic / is authentic before i go spending £90, is it too cheap to be true?
the big advantage for me is not only is it cheap but its also adjustable upto 52 inch chest!
Any help would be appreciated

At least that picture shows the back of the segmentata. It's to small to get a good view, but it looks reasonable at first sight.

I've emailed the folk to ask for better pictures if possible... I was also wondering how easy it would be to make your own? I quite fancy doing some black leather segmenta
that way at least i know it'll be a snug fit (i realise theres no evidence that the romans used leather segmenta, but i still think it'd look rather cool!)

It actually isn't that hard to make your own. The harder parts are the fittings. But, you can buy sets of those, if you don't be able to do that yourself (for instance at Matt Lukes, Armillum, Keltica Iron Village), so you only have to do the cutting of the plates and the rivetting.

haha its not for wearing when doing reenacting with my legion, more for LARPing and stuff, quite fancy just getting into leather crafting.. I have done a few basic things but i think a project like that could be worth while.. plus there is no conclusive evidence that states lorica was NOT made with Leather from what i can see lol...

LOL...that's like saying, well, there's no evidence to say the romans didn't have warp drive....8)
Steel looks 100X better than leather seggies. You should try one...takes some time but well worth it!

true but there are images on Trajans column that they are unsure if the seggies are made from mail or leather, I think the leather seggie will be a first project to try and get the shape and articulation of the joints right etc (much cheaper to mess up using leather!) then i'll try a Steel one, im just not confident in metal work at this stage, but i have a few projects i want to give a bash!!...
but didnt you know Caesar had warp drive AND phasers?

Most of us are pretty confident that metal is being depicted. There are only a few holdover Victorians who don't want to admit that the Romans had that much iron! I'm all for doing LARP and things like that, just be sure that your philosophy for the historical end of the hobby is pure--you can't justify using something because it can't be proven wrong. Stick to what we know. Simple.

Decent leather will cost 70 or 80 bucks a side, whereas you can get steel for free from trash piles. I'm not sure all the articulations will be the same, since leather is bulkier, and flexible unless you stiffen or harden it.

The more projects the better!! Yeah, steel is a different animal from leather, but a lorica is a good starter project because there is very little complex metalworking, really. A few folded edges, the rest is just bending and riveting. No dishing or raising. Word of warning, if you do your own fittings, do those first, before starting on the plates. They are indeed the hard part, and once you get them done the rest is easy. But if you do all the plates and then get bogged down with the fittings, you may never finish the job.
Really can't see much on that little photo, by the way. The straps should be on the INside on the backplates, so that makes me a little skeptical about the rest. Hinges are what I always look at, but can't make them out.

Matt, thanks for your comments, I did notice that actually that the straps were on the outside, That was one of the reasons that i did ask in here...
I think the reason that the Lorica is quite a daunting project is because it is such a big part of a legionaries kit, so it is something i want to get to look right...
I guess thats very true in terms of Leather and Metal being totally different beasts, but what I more ment was that I have never made a lorica before, so i want to get to know the make up of it etc...
I know leather can be rather expensive also but i have alot of high guage leathers kicking about that i can use for this project, so it wouldnt be an added expense...
I dont think i'll venture into making my own fittings for my first Lorica, perhaps if i decide to make a second one!
I was looking at the Keltica Iron Village Lorica sets.. they are relatively cheap and look pretty good.. have you used these or did you make your own?Cheers
