On this day in 44 BC, Cicero delivered his First Philippic, an attack on Mark Antony, in the Roman senate.

On this day in 31 BC Ocatvian's general, Agrippa, defeated the combined fleets of Antony and Cleopatra in the Battle of Actium, establishing Octavian as the ruler of the entire Roman world.
