Very impressive. Re: LEG X GEM AQvILA finished and in use - MARCvSVIBIvSMAvRINvS - 08-11-2008 Yeah I couldnt attend that display... other things LOL best wishes, M.VIB.M. Re: LEG X GEM AQvILA finished and in use - Jona Lendering - 08-11-2008 How do you make that? I mean, did a professional sculptor make the bird, or did you just paint something you picked up on the flea market? Re: LEG X GEM AQvILA finished and in use - M. Demetrius - 08-11-2008 Very beautiful aquila. Quite worthy of the X Gem. Re: LEG X GEM AQvILA finished and in use - MARCvSVIBIvSMAvRINvS - 08-11-2008 From what i know of it Jona, Paul sculpted it and a bronze caster cast it.. if i get more details i will post them asap. M.VIB.M. Re: LEG X GEM AQvILA finished and in use - le Cavalier Invisible - 08-11-2008 It's looking great! Re: LEG X GEM AQvILA finished and in use - jvrjenivs - 08-11-2008 I don't know how it was constructed, but the eagle is covered in gold and the base in silversheet. I guess H.J is right with the wax sculpture and bronze casting, as that seems the most logical way of doing it. Re: LEG X GEM AQvILA finished and in use - Magnus - 08-11-2008 That is insane..by far the best aquila i've ever seen! Re: LEG X GEM AQvILA finished and in use - MARCvSVIBIvSMAvRINvS - 08-11-2008 Here is another pic from the Marles site... http://www.museedestempsbarbares.fr/ima ... ume/35.jpg M.VIB.M. Bronze? hock: I thought those are supposed to be golden! Seriously, though, a great looking piece. Re: LEG X GEM AQvILA finished and in use - Matt Lukes - 08-12-2008 Really? I have the impression I read somewhere that AQVILAE were silver... And that's a gorgeous one- my hat's off the the sculptor  Re: LEG X GEM AQvILA finished and in use - jvrjenivs - 08-12-2008 Quote:Really? As far as I know, but I also don't have the source ready they were silvered first and somewhere in the first century they became golden to. Re: LEG X GEM AQvILA finished and in use - Robert - 08-12-2008 Looks really great!! Much attention to detail. Nice size too. Was it made with a lost wax procedure? I do hope they made a good mold and will be taking orders! |
