Is it right that Roman army was accompanied by the herds of cattle, which were used not for food, but for sex also? Or it is a mere gossip? Are there any serious researches about the sexual life of roman and ancient greek armies?

I would need to see some evidence that the cattle were used in illicit ways. Sounds a bit like the idea that soldiers are deployed for long periods surrounded by men so they must all be gay concept.
