riding on horses - mdroberts18 - 06-08-2008

this is a bit non greek or roman but i thought somebody might know something .i just went to abu simnel in Egypt and in the inscritions dealing with battle of kadesh there was a chariot with both a driver in the carriege and a man also clearly riding one of the horses.I was under the impression that the first evidence for riding horses was with the Assyrians somewhat later.Does anybody know anything or alternatly know of an Egyption chat room where somebody might know .looking forward to hearing anything mike

Horseback riding goes back to the middle Bronze Age. Check out Littauer and Crowell Selected Writings on Early vehicles, Riding, and Harness
Brill, 2002

Any university library will have it.
