Thank you Dan, and thank you for being there. It needs more braveness to be in such an event as a Persian than a Greek!

Very many congratulations to all who organised and took part.

Some clips from those videos gave me shivers down my spine! Some excellent impressions on both sides.

Here we are! The whole battle. This is the first day. We repeated the battle on Sunday. I think on Sunday the battle was better.

Re: Marathon 2011 - Ghostmojo - 09-15-2011

Did the Spartan contingent turn up a few days late and view the dead?!!!

Re: Marathon 2011 - Giannis K. Hoplite - 09-15-2011

Re: Marathon 2011 - Ammianus - 09-22-2011

Great videos and pictures....wish I could have been there. Sad

Which group were the Scyths, Persians etc from?

Re: Marathon 2011 - Gaius Julius Caesar - 09-22-2011

I am looking forward to visiting my family in Athens again. wish I had taken the oportunity to do so to coincide with this event.
Still, blood is always thicker than water, and I know I will be there again someday!
Thanks for doing this, putting to the flesh a dream I have had for a long time.
I have plans on kitting out in the next year or so, so will hopefully be a proper Greek soon!
Keep on with the inspiration Giannis and the rest of you!
Awesome stuff, really awesome!

The majority were from the Hoplite Association.

I'm (the one in the red tunic) not part of a group right now but I hung out with them most of the weekend. Great folks.

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D Big Grin Big Grin
How did I miss This????
Utterly Brilliant!!
Well done to all the attendees and coordinators and champions of philhellenes all round!!
Can we beg for a detailed report of the fun and frollic and seriousness and sombreness
I would love to see a register of shields started from this (perhaps a new thread?) as well as the names of the attendees, county of origin and group (if relevant) so that
an e- register cum bronze plaque can be set up in our hearts as we watch a little more history be made...
regards
richard
