OK. Here's the .pdf drawing with shield slices. I think getting good glue joints might be a problem (setting up a clamp system). If anyone wants to try it, go for it!

You can use wooden pegs to hold it together (biscuits might be better, but have no experience with them).

It's a full-size drawing. Adobe Reader ought to be able to zoom out to see the whole page. Most people won't have access to a large-paper printer/plotter, but can save the pdf to a flash drive and have an office-supply place like Staples of Kinko's print it out for them. You won't have to screw around with scale AND English/metric conversions at the same time. If you can't get the reader to work for you, let me know and I'll make a smaller out-of-scale version.
Download and save it somewhere on your computer. Let me know if you can't manipulate it.

Chery,I can zoom out,but it just shows the cut photo smaller. It's not a matter of zooming in and out.At least for me... :? The Planks,for instance and the words under them,are cut nearly to half.

Is there anyone carving for tourists near you? Perhaps you can hook up with some artist's grandfather or uncle? I thought of always holding the rim as the base line and arching the cuts with 20 mm on either side of the finshed lines. Then you could plane, rasp, file and sand your way to the end shape. In any case, NO VOIDS in the gluing - the piece will fail at the bad joint. Good luck.
If you find someone, offer to learn from them. Even though I only swept up shavings and was an extre set of hands, Ed was pleased to share his knowledge (and stories, too).

Update and a question...
I have a quote from the spinners (OUCH). Wood tooling and set-up= 1037USD. One bronze face= 775USD. I asked for a requote using yellow brass. This will be a one-off. I have to bring my shield in to set up the pattern. The turning is not quite true to the plans. There is enough of a gap to make a poor fit with the facing. (Rats!) The weight of the metal will add about 20 lb. (9.1 kg).
The spinners are willing to make wooden shield blanks AND facings. I can price that out if there is interest. Shipping (by truck - nonstandard size) is not included in this quote.
An aside for Chris in the other shield thread. There are metal spinners in TX. You might want to check them out. They may be able to face directly to your ring blank - with interior temporary re-inforcement. It's cheaper because they don't have to make a new wood tool.
Question: What kind of paint did you shield owners use on leather? Type and brand would be helpful...

There are a bunch of metal spinners in Ontario (just Googled it). Royal Metal Spinning does non-ferrous work. You might be able to get it done for a lot less up in Canada. I'd send Autocad 2D and 3d files to any metal spinning company who could use them.
