MP beaten unconscious - MARCVS PETRONIVS MAIVS - 05-25-2008

Should we offer her a Praetorian Escort at premium rates and no political assassinations or money back guarantee?

Seriously though, what the hell, how low has this country got to? Cry

Perhaps if it was legal for her to get a concealed pistol permit the beating would have gone a little differently. The police cannot be everywhere
all the time so individuals must have the means to defend themselves
as a natural right of man.

Well, gun ownership debates aside, while I envy the US citizen's right to bear arms, I don't think it would necessarily make Britain any better.

We do have a serious problem with youths though, and I tend to think bad parenting, which sadly is state sponsored it would seem, together with other social evils such as underage drinking and schools that are almost segregated are to blame.

We could be teetering on the brink of what's proper in this forum, gents. It would be easy to shift into full-bore modern politics from here, seems to me. :!:

Yes I feared that, but I believe it can still be safely escorted back to the right side of the forum law.

I mean, other issues aside, how many times does a congressman or woman get beaten up in the US or elsewhere lol?

Re: MP beaten unconscious - M. Demetrius - 05-26-2008

Hardly ever...in this century. In the 19th, it was not uncommon for heated discussions to go on to the level of fistfights.

And in the ancient times, well, decorum was sometimes forgotten in favor of the pugio, or so says Julius Caesar. Smile

Now that's definitely modern politics. Boys, take that fight to another pub, please.

Re: MP beaten unconscious - Quintius Clavus - 05-30-2008

Unfortunately, women being assaulted while jogging is not all that uncommon an occurrence. I didn't read the whole article as to whether she was a random target or not.
On a brighter note, a woman friend of mine handily took on a mugger one day outside the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania train station (a few years ago). A man approached her with steel pipe in hand and demanded money. He got far more than he bargained for. She took the pipe away from him and proceeded to beat him with it. A couple police officers came over and stood to watch. When her right arm got tired and she switched the pipe to her other hand, then, the police officers decided to stop it and arrested the mugger. The police thought it was a good "lesson" for the mugger to learn.
