Croatia - Who needs pictures? - Nerva - 05-14-2008

Salvete Omnes!

A good friend of mine, Jack O'Keeffe (the same man who took the pictures of the Adamklissi monument), is going on assignment to Croatia for a year. He has kindly offered his services for photographing any historic sites of interest in the Balkins. If you know of a site worth visiting and photographing in detail, just let me know.

Not Croatia, nearby Serbia, but I'd be very thankful for any pics of the Berkasovo helmets and belt fittings at the Vojvodanski Muzej in Novi Sad 8)

The amphitheater of Pula is a nice place. There are also some tombstones etc in a park nearby.

One of which has a fantastically accurate depiction of a pugio and belt!

Oh! and there's also an amphitheatre, a temple to Augustus and a nice arch!

Re: Croatia - Who needs pictures? - Nerva - 05-14-2008

OK, Jack goes out in June. Rather than post pictures up on romanarmy.ie, Jack will post up on his own webspace. I'll make a list of your requests and give them to Jack. I will then send everyone a link to Jacks site so you can view/download as you like.

Jack is a fantastic fellow, so just give details of EXACTLY what you want pics of and he'll do it.

Yes, it would be absolutely wonderful to have some good high-resolution pictures of the Imperial Gallic C helmet, now in the Zagreb Archaeological Museum, Cat. # 128, inventory # 8144 (kaciga tipa Weisenau, kat. br. 128, inv. broj 8144). I am especially interested to see the exact placement of:

1. the rivet holes on the sides of the bowl for attaching the brow guard (now lost)
2. the rivet holes on the front and back of the bowl for connecting the rings to secure the ends of the crest block.

Many thanks!

OK, I've just spoken with Jack. He applied to have his car upgraded to a helicopter, his contract extended by 10 years and 1000 rolls of film

Seriously though, he'll work through your requests one by one and, Vincula, thanks for the map info
