Belt plate Silvering - Doc - 04-20-2008

Is there any evidence that the Wolf/twins or Emperor/ Cornucopia belt plates were either silvered or tinned?

Would it be "accurate" to silver or tin these belt plates for a reconstruction?

Thanks

Why not? I'd think some selective tinning on those plates would be VERY nice looking!

A very large number of first century AD belt plates show evidence of tining or silvering. Therefore it would certainly be appropriate to tin or silver 'wolf and twins' or 'Tiberius and cornucopia' plates (as well as 'acanthus leaves' and 'chasing animals' plates for that matter).

Thank you both for the response.

I was thinking it was ok. But I was not sure.

A sneak peak at what my partially tinned plates will look like (courtesy of Matt Lukes).
