Doctor Who in Pompeii - Kate Gilliver - 04-11-2008

BBC1 Saturday 18:45.
"The Fires of Pompeii
Psychic powers and stone beasts run riot in old Pompeii, but can Donna and the Doctor to change established history?"

Big Grin

Re: Doctor Who in Pompeii - Carus Andiae - 04-11-2008

Yup, filmed on the Cinecitta sets built for Rome.

After Torchwood's pathetic attempt at a Roman soldier last year, I don't hold out much hope for costumes. Still, with people from Lord of the Rings working on the CGI, would should get a decent eruption at least! Big Grin

Yay! More dodgy legionaries!

And a town auger merits a military guard on what grounds?

Still, great episode, all in all.

Re: Doctor Who in Pompeii - Salvianus - 04-13-2008

Could have been a lot worse! (Oh right, you mentioned the Torchwood character already!)

The superb exterior set was used well (in only 48 hours for shooting, I believe) made a great impression. Making allowances for the fact that it's an hour long tea-time family viewing fantasy adventure serial on the BBC, rather than a feature length period blockbuster (Gladiator, I'm looking at you!), the theatrical costumes were OK by me (not my period disclaimer). It's certainly a big improvement on the days of the Whomobile and wobbly sets!

They had fun with their automatic translation of Latin with a nice reference for all ex-students of the Cambridge Latin course and lots of Asterix references :-) )

There's lovely.
