Gourds as Water Vessels - Hibernicus - 03-22-2008 Been playing about with gourds as water bottles. Easy enough to work and prep for use. Easier than leather! We have an electric crock-pot full of beeswax and powdered charcoal for use in making wax tablets. Decided to use this to seal the inside of a gourd. WOW! The water doesn't tast like beeswax, which is a minor problem when using beeswax to seal the Deepeeka "canteen", for example.. The charcoal acts like a sort of filter! Re: Gourds as Water Vessels - PhilusEstilius - 03-22-2008 I was wondering if you had been looking at the film "THE LIFE of BRIAN," some one wanted to sell a one there it was realy going cheap as well. Re: Gourds as Water Vessels - Magnus - 03-22-2008 Why gourds? What evidence do you have that the Roman army used gourds for canteens?
