Re: Bear skull in Roman military context - Gaius Julius Caesar - 02-23-2008 I'm not sure but I think it was a bull or ox skull....could be wrong tho! Re: Bear skull in Roman military context - LUCIUS ALFENUS AVITIANUS - 02-23-2008 I have wrote in my post, the target skull was founded in Vindolanda and is from a bull/ox/cow. I have'nt any credibility? Re: Bear skull in Roman military context - Marcus Mummius - 02-24-2008 Quote:I have wrote in my post, the target skull was founded in Vindolanda and is from a bull/ox/cow. Dear Cezar, I remember reading about a bull/ox skull that was used as a target. So you are certainly correct! What I meant to ask Maarten is if he is sure there was found a horse skull that was used as a target. I should have written it like this: Are you sure there is a horse skull too, in adition to the bull skull? vale, Re: Bear skull in Roman military context - Gaius Julius Caesar - 02-24-2008 Poor Cesar  Re: Bear skull in Roman military context - Marcus Mummius - 02-25-2008 Dear Cezar, Could you find out some references for bear teeth in Roman military contexts? Vale, Jef Re: Bear skull in Roman military context - Marcus Mummius - 03-17-2008 Salvete, I have one more question for you on this subject: When the Romans would have tanned a bear skin, would they always have removed the skull? Is it possible to tan a skin without removing the animal's skull? Or was this never done? Valete, |
