I'm not sure but I think it was a bull or ox skull....could be wrong tho!

I have wrote in my post, the target skull was founded in Vindolanda and is from a bull/ox/cow.

Dear Cezar, I remember reading about a bull/ox skull that was used as a target. So you are certainly correct!
What I meant to ask Maarten is if he is sure there was found a horse skull that was used as a target. I should have written it like this:

Are you sure there is a horse skull too, in adition to the bull skull?

I have one more question for you on this subject:

When the Romans would have tanned a bear skin, would they always have removed the skull?

Is it possible to tan a skin without removing the animal's skull? Or was this never done?
