Help needed from Germans! Ich bin Auslander! - M.H. White - 02-05-2008

Any Frankfurters or Hessians in the house? Or just someone who knows their way around Frankfurt International?

Last time I checked we had a fair few Germans on this board, and I don't really know where else to look to find this info.

Some of you may remember I posted a thread last fall about coming to Germany. Well, this particular dream is being realized and I'm leaving in 35 days to come study at the Universität Trier for a semester, which I'm incredibly excited about.

So anyhow, I'm arriving in Frankfurt on March 12 at 7:40 or 8:40, and then I've got to catch a train to Trier. I was looking to buy my train ticket in advance through bahn.de, and I have one question to help avoid a potential giant pitfall: is there more than one major train station in Frankfurt? It didn't give me the option of multiple stations. From what I understand, the bahnhof is actually in/merged with Frankfurt International. I've only ever been through Munich, so if someone could help me figure this out before I buy a ticket for the wrong train station, ich wurde sehr dankbar sein.

Not a German, but I did fly into Frankfurt before. The airport does have a train station integrated into it, search for Frankfurt (M) Flughafen. You'll get a ton of choices and probably need to go for the Fernbf (long distance trains).

Hiya

I often use the message boards at tripadvisor.com so might be worth a look. I'm afraid I was 13 or so when I was there so not much help!

You probably will have to transfer from the Airport Train Station to the main train station in Frankfurt, but I'm not sure. You might want to call Deutsche Bahn, you can even book your ticket on the phone etc.
The Bahn.de website sucks, as I found out this winter when I tried to book the TGV from Stuttgart to Paris, when I checked for availability, it always said "Available", until you go through all the steps (entering names, addresses, payment information etc.) and finally click on "Book", when it says that the train is totally booked out.
I decided I will always call from now on.
Here is the number for the Deutsche Bahn Reisecenter (for calls from outside of Germany), they speak English very well:
(0)1805-996633 (so from the US, it's 01149-1805-996633).
