Last weekend Gerard (tiberivs) worked on our new aquila. Here the first pic of Gerard proudly holding the aquila, attached to his way to long standard. More pics will follow soon.

we didn't cut the pole because we want to measure the proper height. we also wait for the bottom piece.

Byron, note that the pole is standing on the ground on this picture. So if you would carry it on the battlefield, the eagle is about 1 meter higher in the air.
Bottom piece we're waiting for is a buttspike.
Sure it was cheap. Only the brass needed for this eagle is more expensive than this piece here in the Netherlands.

Jurjen, I can hammer you a iron buttspike from solid wall tube in less then half an hour when I fire the forge, but then again, its iron and perhaps you want brass?

They sell some pretty decent stuff in bronze, brass or steel... also have a range of sizes from 15" to 27" tall. Take a look and tell me what you think, as I am considering getting one for my group Legio XXI Rapax.
