Robert,
Come and celebrate your birthday in France, with us.
You are only 58 once, you know!

Here's a gallery with pictures - would that every organiser did so!
Graham, are you on one of them?

I bet you are right (although I hope to reach that age in 15 years' time  ). Yes, it's not yet 4 hours by car, but with LRE III this year it would be one too many I'm afraid... Cry But how about next year?

Marles - derek forrest - 07-11-2008

We managed 85 Legionnaries plus principales and 40 odd auxilliaries with Chris taking the legion and Klaus the auxilliaries. A great example of international cooperation as we had English Dutch Belgian French and Germans all more or less working together. We had about 8 pieces of artillery and 2 Cavalry.
Rene did a very expressive commentary and the Marles people under Alain Nice did a a great job with the organisation.

It finished off with 2 battles one official in the arena against some saxons holding a fort and one unofficial when some vikings took the Roman camp.
The latter ended with 3 in a ditch and fortunately no serious injuries.

There is another one in 2010 so maybe we can field a maniple

What an impressive event! Who paid for it? I only ask as we're looking for opportunities for sponsors as well.

Re: Marle 2008 - Redwald - 07-12-2008

Derek,
They weren't 'Vikings' -- -- they were a spontaneous alliance of Thuringians, Angles, Saxons, Allemani and Gauls attempting to throw off the Roman yoke!

Alas, Richard, I don't think that you will find sponsors there -- it was, I believe, paid for by the Department -- but the number of vistors means that all funds were more than recouped! Contact Alain Nice for details.
