Dear friends I regret to inform you that Paul Allen has passed away after an accident.

I'm shocked and sad. Although I never met Paul in person, I did admire his work and contribution in our field. He will be greatly missed.

My condolences to his family.

Re: Paul is now in Hellysium - Caius Fabius - 09-21-2007

Sad cry:
Safe journey, Paul,
As a Christian brother I know I'll see you later!
Save me a glass of the sweet stuff,
and don't ask all the questions before I get there.
Now you know the answers to questions we are still arguing about!

Re: Paul is now in Hellysium - Robert Vermaat - 09-21-2007

That is very, very sad news to hear. Paul did not post very often, but when he did it was worth reading.

My condoleances to his family and other loved ones whom he leaves behind.

Could anyone post a good picture of him, or tell us more about what he was involved in, in order to celebrate his life?

Oh, my.
My condolences to family and friends.

Plinius wrote:

Mihi videtur acerba semper et immatura mors eorum, qui immortale aliquid parant.

To me as well.

Re: Paul is now in Hellysium - hoplite14gr - 09-21-2007

Às Robert requested:

Paul was a man of moral values. His best memorial IS his family!
He had a way of giving strength to carry on to all who felt their courage lacking and could infect everyone with enthusiasm.

He was living proof that you need to respect your heritage first before you start appreciating other cultures.
He started from Saxon England and he got involved in Ancient Greece.

He was willing to examine "odd" things about history and brought common sence in historical examination.

Greek hoplite re-enactors are especially in debt to him for opening the "gate of the West" to them.
Not a native Greek he was a "true Greek". A Hellen (enlightened one.)
We all know he was fond of the Thespians.

A man's wealth is counted in the number of his friends and Paul was very wealthy in this sense.
And I am poorer from today.

Re: Paul is now in Hellysium - Memmia - 09-21-2007

This is terrible news.
My family and myself were privileged to have met Paul at Colchester. He had a wealth of historical knowledge indeed spanning through many ages. This is a tragic loss, and my sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

God bless you, Paul.

RIP

Paul, You made a dream come true, which was to walk with wolves, for that I will be eternally grateful.
To Sharon, Sev'ys and my deepest condolences.
