Roman 1st C. BC Lorica Squamata and Gladius from Frieze - MeinPanzer - 09-04-2007 I found this piece in the lapidarium of the archaeological museum in Split, Croatia. There was unfortunately no accompanying label, but it is presumably from the Croatian coast. The style is distinctly 1st C. BC. http://65.98.116.234/~rpost/images/scale1.jpg http://65.98.116.234/~rpost/images/scale2.jpg http://65.98.116.234/~rpost/images/scale3.jpg http://65.98.116.234/~rpost/images/scale4.JPG Re: Roman 1st C. BC Lorica Squamata and Gladius from Frieze - Gaius Julius Caesar - 09-04-2007 Almost looks like the Delos scabbard style! Re: Roman 1st C. BC Lorica Squamata and Gladius from Frieze - Conal - 09-04-2007 the wrsit loop is reminiscent of illustrations of Gladiator swords. Lorica Squamata and gladius - Paullus Scipio - 09-04-2007 Wow ! excellent find, Ruben ! A Laudes from me for posting those photos. The squamata is ( for once) unmistakeably depicted, and interestingly covers the throat...and the gladius wrist loop is unusual too, though its use is to be expected. |
