Yeah, I know. I still want to try some more authentic methods, but for now, those I had laying around, are easy to wash an do the job. I first have to work on some other parts of my (and my retiarius') outfit.

Just a few from our group:
(The Murmillo at the bottom of this post is wearing high-greaves that really belong to the Thraex, that's because he was a Thraex until the press guy who took this picture made him change helms & use a different shield for effect.. nice lighting on this - so we kept it)

Re: Show here your gladiator impression - Gaius Longius - 02-19-2009

Hi Dan,

Killer pics my friend. You and your boys and girls (plays safe knowing how easy it is to die) always seem to be the ones who set the standards.

Keep up the great work.

Regards,

Gary.

Re: Show here your gladiator impression - Dan from Britannia - 02-19-2009

Oh we'd never claim to set any standards, we're just one group amongst many... and the competition (gladiatorial and later Roman) is of a very high standard indeed, that's what drives us.

We're actually having a laugh... just don't tell anyone

Looks like you guys are doing a grand job in Chester, the latest pics of you lot in the amphitheatre are superb.

Re: Show here your gladiator impression - Gaius Longius - 02-20-2009

Thanks Dan.

Would really like to see you and your guys back at Chester but as usual the financial support for anything that is actually of interest to the public is sadly lacking.

You never know though perhaps our dream of a proper games at the Amphitheatre might come true.

Regards,

Gary.

Re: Show here your gladiator impression - Dan from Britannia - 02-20-2009

Our year-planner always looks poorer without the word 'Chester' on it!

We loved doing national archaeology day in your amphitheatre & Paul Harston always organised/looked after everybody very well.

We even miss the racecourse events
It's true! I must admit I used to find the race days very entertaining... people getting absolutely smashed on cider and starting a punch-up to take away the pain of losing vast amounts of money on the racecourse, or people getting absolutely smashed on cider and starting a punch-up to celebrate winning vast amounts of money on the racecourse.

It made us feel homesick for Essex!

Seriously... We had some great shows there with you guys... because as animated as the race-goers got, they always appreciated a good show and roared approval at Romans getting killed in the arena - I had can of Special Brew thrown at me when I killed the young heroic retiarius, Now that's what I call audience reaction!!!!

Mind you, we laughed at the memory of you guys coming to Flag Fen that year... when we had planted a 'troublemaker' in the audience for dramatic effect... your centurion didn't realize he was a plant (the message hadn't reached him that it was all part of the show) ... and decked him with a firm punch when he ran onto the arena... VERY funny and it made it all more realistic!

Re: Show here your gladiator impression - Dan from Britannia - 02-20-2009

Wow... fantastic pictures, kit, action & pompa.

Forgive my stupid & obvious statement - It looks like the outfit Marcus Junkelmann was researching/producing for. (We have a great debt to the research you guys have done).

Re: Show here your gladiator impression - M. Demetrius - 02-20-2009

Martin, don't you hate that dirty trick with the trident, pulling your shield down? It's a lot more work for you to keep your shield up than for him to pull it, and he's not wearing all that armor...

Glad to see your guy using the net like a net, and not like a whip/flail. Does it have a rope tied on so he can retrieve it?
