Linothrax Armour - Johannes II August - 08-11-2007

What's exactly a linothrax armour and what materials were used to make it? I presume it's linen armour, by the name, but then I don't know a lot about the subject.

And how widely was linothrax used compared to the bronze hoplite breastplates? How effective it was and what are the weaknesses of this kind of armour?

Thanks

Try the search function of the forum, there is a lot of info about the linothorax here in the Greek section. Smile

Re: Linothrax Armour - Sean Manning - 08-11-2007

Short answer: We don't know what it was called, and we don't know what it was made of, although some of us favour different theories and can get quite passionate advocating them.

Good luck slogging through those threads.
