Re: Black re-enactors - Gaivs Antonivs Satvrninvs - 01-18-2006 Wow! Great topic.Good perceptions all! Unless I'm mistaken, didn't Homer mention a (Nubian?) king named Memnon who fought Achilles? I seem to remember he came"in the nick of time" to aid the Trojans only to meet the same fate as most who opposed Achilles. Re: Black re-enactors - Gaivs Antonivs Satvrninvs - 01-18-2006 Speaking of Zulu re-encatment. The uniforms alone could entice me. (British, not Zulu.) The same could be said for many enemies of Rome but that doesn't seem to stop anyone(Allies and Enemies of Rome-forum?) form mounting a gallant effort. My best guess for non-participation,discounting all the above reasons, would be -"disposable income". Re: Black re-enactors - Anonymous - 01-18-2006 And nobody's inviting them to be the losers. If you look at my list, you'll see that blacks and asians would be on the winning side (or both sides) as often as not. Re: Black re-enactors - hoplite14gr - 01-19-2006 It wan´t Homer Andy. Please refer to my previous post. Kind regards Re: Black re-enactors - Gaivs Antonivs Satvrninvs - 01-20-2006 Stefanos, Your mention of Memnon is what brought his name to mind. I was refering to a part of the Iliad. Around the same part of the battle as where Achilles fought the Amazon. If I recall, Memnon was kicking butt and thinking these Greeks are not so tough just before Achilles changed his mind. Maybe I need a re-read. |
