Re: Olympia museum helmet - Gaius Julius Caesar - 06-26-2007

The one from the Corinthian museum is definitely the epitome of the helmets form for me. Glad to see you guys have good taste!!

Awesome photos guys!, Good luck on your new helmet Giannis!

Thanks much Julius.Buying a helmet from manning is not an easy decision, for obvious reasons...

Re: Olympia museum helmet - Giannis K. Hoplite - 06-27-2007

Good looking helmet, Giannis Confusedhock: ! I have a Deepeeka version and mildly spoken it is "crap" Cry ...

Re: Olympia museum helmet - Giannis K. Hoplite - 06-27-2007

Ha,I have NOTHING so far and I won't have for a couple of years(I heard this is the waiting time in manning!).So...don't feel very unlucky!

Re: Olympia museum helmet - Gaius Julius Caesar - 06-27-2007

If I ever buy a corintian, it will be a Manning. As Verilis said, sadly the Deepeeka is C$%p!!! Better nothing at all than that! No offense verilis!

Part of my decision to go down the Roman route to be honest...

Re: Olympia museum helmet - Giannis K. Hoplite - 06-27-2007

Yes.The pictures above are from manning imperial(to give credit, althoght it's obvious) that I modified a bit to resemble the helm from Corinth.

I also thought that way,Julius, and did not buy anything.

Gioi,I think I saw the first one with the green patina being sold somewhere...
The last one you posted is this one

Ok,along with this one
[Image: 6th.jpg]
I think we've already posted the the most beautiful corinthians ever built in this forum!
Gioi,I think the one from Corinth(with the cheek peaces a bit closer) is still better than the last one you're searching about. But I wouldn't be surprized at all if both come from the same workshop!!

Re: Olympia museum helmet - Giannis K. Hoplite - 06-27-2007

Haha,Gioi,you're mistaken...
the last two you posted is the same helmet. The one from Corinth.I just "modified"a bit the middle one and placed the cheek pieces a bit closer to look better. Also,it is a newer photo than the last and the helmet has been restored in some places. Smile
The reason the crown looks dofferent is that they're taken from different angles.

PS.Whith "this one" I meant that we've posted the best helmets, not that the one with green patina is the Axel Guttman helmet.

Re: Olympia museum helmet - Giannis K. Hoplite - 06-27-2007

Isn't it better with "closed" cheek guards?
And you were right,at least the last two pictures are from the same workshop!

Re: Olympia museum helmet - Gaius Julius Caesar - 06-27-2007

Well, when the Axel Guttmann was sold at christies, I remember seeing the tv journalist put it on! What a cheek!! Confusedhock:

That could well be the Guttmann one in the pic above

Re: Olympia museum helmet - Giannis K. Hoplite - 06-29-2007

Here are some of the "fakes" I did when I had photoshop.
To give credit, the shield belongs to Eduardo Guillen from the Athena Promachos. Most of the helmets were taken from the manning imperial site.
So, if anyone of you guys sees me wearing his helmet, please excuse...

Re: Olympia museum helmet - Giannis K. Hoplite - 07-12-2007

Thanks again Gioi! Finally it is possible to find pictures from different angles of any helmet...with a lot of research, right?

Re: Olympia museum helmet - Giannis K. Hoplite - 07-12-2007

Were you really about to come to Greece for this purpose? How old is that helmet?Only few deceys befor Thermopylae. You could have earn it from your grand father,as we know this was happening...And yes,we must go further from a lost battle

Since this has turned into a Corinthian free for all, this is my contribution, it's scanned from Dorling Kindersley's "Weapon", click on the thumbnail please.
