Re: Army of King Attalus I - Ramesses II - 03-26-2006

Quote:The pikemen were typical hellenistic -sarissa small shield. but converted infantry possibly carried thyreos, heavy javelines and might even wear chainmail (Thorakitae).

Something like this (Dutch site, so mainly Dutch texts, but the picture is there) ? It's the Greek infantryman around 200BC from the book Rome and Greece at War from Connolly.

Quote:Spedius, have a look in the Allies and enemies of Rome thread.
Kind regards

Ave hoplite14gr,

Thank you for the tip.

I had a look where you suggested but couldn't see anything that helped?

What did you have in mind?

Vale

M. Spedius Corbulo

Corect for the pikemen of the time. The Thorkitis would wear same armor and curry a thyreos rectangular or oval shield, a heavy javelin and a long xiphos.
Kind regards
