Re: Occrea, Legio IX Hispana - griffin - 09-05-2008 There is a good picture of a "real" roman greave on Legion VI's website in their real gear section. It's in the bottom row of this page: http://www.legionsix.org/Real%20Gear.htm It's got some lines(grooves or folds) up and down the greave, and it's got three rivets on each side to hold onto rings. That's the original from which Armamentaria and DSC made their reconstruction. Just in case anybody wanted to know.. wink: Greetz, Re: Occrea, Legio IX Hispana - Nemonius Agricola - 09-05-2008 It is 18 gauge Re: Occrea, Legio IX Hispana - Hibernicus - 09-06-2008 Yes, 18g. Re: Occrea, Legio IX Hispana - Q. Vipsanivs Praetextatvs - 09-06-2008 Quote:Ah, nice. I wondered if they didn't glue the backing on. That's what I've done on most of mine....though I imagine they could have done both. It isn't a greave but you can see the same on this corinthian helmet: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2184/250 ... 7a.jpg?v=0 Re: Occrea, Legio IX Hispana - Magnus - 09-06-2008 Possible they used both methods to attach a lining then? Re: Occrea, Legio IX Hispana - Q. Vipsanivs Praetextatvs - 09-07-2008 I think that yes, because there are armors without holes to sew lining. Re: Occrea, Legio IX Hispana - Hibernicus - 09-07-2008 We used glue as well. It's a nice way to hold the layers of fabric and leather cover while sewing! Hide glue I've used a combo of hide and beeswax and rosin. Works great. |
