Hi all

I am wordering what do you think of the TV show ROME i think its very goog Smile
I love the story line, I enjoy the way it goes from a lowly milite like Pullo to a great historical figure like caesar or octavian.

howver, that said, I can't watch it without pointing out to my wife all the horrible uniform inaccuracies (especially those scuta :? ) of the legions, and even though I can live with those nasty montefortinos, it wouldn't have cost much more (if any) to make a more historically accurate (and eye appealing) helm.
I am hooked!! My wife just got me the complete first season on DVD for my birthday, and a friend of mine sent me a copy of the second season!! That keeps me up late at night just watching!! Good schtuff!!!!

You might be interested in the thread "HBO's Rome..." in the References and Reviews section where it was discussed ad nauseum starting in Feb 2005. There's even a thread there which contains a show-by-show blog.
A word of caution, though. If you've not seen it all yet there are spoilers.
Personally, I enjoyed it very much and am sorry to see it gone.
Greetings Gentlemen.

Yes, many of the costumes need some "work" and many events and personalities are combined/compressed/left out/etc. yet even so, as many of us said, even poor shows about Rome are better than no shows about Rome.

Although this show drove me crazy sometimes, I will still miss it.

this only ended season two, and aren't they planning many (or at least 2) more?
Everything we read from HBO indicated that the series ended with Season 2.

Of course...

Hollywood loves to make money and has been known to "raise the dead" in order to release a sequel or continue a series, so anything is possible.

However...

In this case I doubt it.

It's definitely a dead show now. There's a campaign going on to get a 3rd season made, but it currently looks like the best way for that to happen is for fans to pester HBO constantly, buy the DVD's to prove it's very profitable, and actually cancel (not threaten to) your HBO subscriptions. Personally, I think a whole season including Arminnius and culminating in the Varus disaster might be fun, and topical for 2009

Theree are alot of "interesting" scenes in the series, but I am still an addict. It beats watching late night infomercials when Sarge lets me out late!! lol

If I understood correctly, my wife ordered me the 2nd season on DVD as well, so I will have an extra discs of the 2nd season if anyone wants to view them.

I really enjoyed the series, I loved the character developments of Pullo, Verenus...I hated but loved Marcus Antonius, and liked how Cleo and Marcus developed, esspecially in season 2.

- regardless of how [fictional] those characters may have been, they as characters themselves within the series itself is what I really enjoyed. Once you get yourself past some of these errors, you can focus on getting wrapped up into the story, which is really what the intent of the producers.

...Ok, so yeah, Pullo and Verenus were both centurions, according to Caesar, but in the series these two characters have a really interesting development....Don't they always have some silly disclaimer at the end of of movies and TV shows? "Names and likenesses have been changed, any similiarties are coincidental"

- in a same way with say, Star Wars...Once you get past the blatant disregard of physics (and no sound in space, et cetera), you get wrapped up in the story....Or even with Apollo 13 - you'd have never hear the hissing of escaping gas when the panel blew out, being out in space next to the capsule, but it would have been a dull movie moment if there was no sound, and the audience would assume the sound system failed in the theater and complaining would ensue.

Yeah, it's chock full of half-arsed hollywoodisms and whatnot, they got "so close" with a bunch of things, and it's also good fun to pick apart every little detail - In a way it makes it more enjoyable as a series because it gets you to pay attention to the details and research them later to see how well/poorly they did it/got away with it.

(in as much as I hate to see the errors, at the same time it benefits [me] because I can then correct those errors when Joe Public asks the questions - same as with Gladiator, you have to start somewhere...Or as John W. Higgins said "you must instill a spark" (paraphrasing))

Although it's sad to know that "trying to be accurate" was so expensive that something even remotely close may not happen again for a very long time...I find it very hard to believe that accuracy means expensive, but anyway.

I think it was a groundbreaking attempt to strike a ballance between accuracy and entertainment, it's certainly a step in the right direction, I just hope that it can be taken to the next level.

I just hope you don't have a son called Brian...
I liked series 1 the best. Series 2 was OK I guess, but if series 3 would have degraded in the same order, I'm glad they won't make any more. the story just fell dead, the actors seemed tired and the writers seemed to have run out of steam. The characters all got very cinical, too, seemed as if they no longer had fun at all in their lives anymore.
