I am new to using a message board so I am hoping that this is going out to everyone. I am doing a hamata using riveted chainmail about 8mm I.D.. What is the best way to put this together to form a chainmail shirt? At this point I feel kind of dumb for attempting it. Thank you for any help.

I've put this project aside, but will restart using smaller diameter wire and maybe round rivets. I need to experiment abit with the tooling for round rivets as very little on the methods has been published.
when I bought a batch of rivet rings with rivets a few years back, I knew of a dealer selling the triangle ones who also sold a rivetting tool with them. However, I bought round rivet rings. when I asked about a tool, I was told to just squash them between a pair of pliers (or for those weaker in forearm like myself, I've found vise-grips are a huge help).

Low and behold - I was told right. I did however find, that drilling a small indentation into both sides of the pliers helps prevent slip ups. I had a couple that bent over more than "peened", and decided to scrap them after drilling into the jaws.

And don't forget to use the longest handled pliers that can be used effectively. You can alos grind the tip of the pliers down so it's a little narrower, so as to make the fit easier, should you have to make a repair later.
