480 BC
Attack of Carthage , Battle of Imera.
The Carthaginians led by Amilkas 300,000 troops and 500 ships attack Sicily
.The Greeks of Sicily and the Akragantinians muster 50,000 footmen and 5000 horsemen. In the following conflict Amilkas is killed 150,000 of his troops and all ships are either destroyed or captured by the greeks. Diodoros states that the battle of Imera took place the same day as the battle of Thermopylae(meaning the last day) while Herodotus the sea fight at Salamis.

Imera means day (hmera)
Hey Themistoklis,Imera is written as in english with an "I" not Hmera like "day".So it doesn't mean day
To be honest for a minute, I had never heard of that battle before... Confusedhock:
A quick reference to both battles of Himera and more here:

Kind regards
Imeros with I is desire,pothos,love
i put imera in my ancient greek dictionary and it say its the same like hmera(day).I was wondering about that.

The battle is never mentioned because of the other battles that took place at the same time though the opposite should apply. The Carthaginians were helping persia to crush the all the Greek states or simply took advantage of the situation.
Can someone show me what kind of troops the carthaginian army
had at this battle and Era?
What army did they have before they adopted greek type troops?

Go to www.dbaol.com . Click "Search Armies". Select Early Carthagenian.
Just a good place to start.
