Avete omnes,

our son found a funny video clip and simple Gladiator game on the German Playmobil website.

It is understandable even if you won't speak any German. The intro movie, featuring an Roman assault is... cool! 8)

Chose connection speed and click 'start'. (The German text tells about gladiators being ancient stars, but in contrary to modern soccer players, the were not free until the emperor would award the wooden sword to them...)
Very funny,
too bad that there were no roman playmobils, when I was a kid.

The gaps in my knowledge of the roman period wouldn´t be that big, I guess.
E.g. I may would know, how a pugio hilt looks like, if I would have had the ability to play with these figures.
Brilliant - thanks for the link. My son (6) loves it.
Ave Robert,

fine! Big Grin

It is really nice for children (and I personally love the hopping testudo 8) )

The Playmobil Romans are a kind of best-seller here and will perhaps lead more children and teens to ancient re-enactment
I like it! Big Grin D

However...

When will they ever release these Romans here in the US?

Perhaps they fear it won't sell here?

Lego knights do well (as do Lego Star Wars etc.) so I would think Playmobil Romans would do well too, but...

Ave David,

here's the US-Playmobil contact page:

If there are enough people demanding the Romans for Playmobil's US-range, they might come sooner...

I'll also send a request to the headquarters in Germany.
Wow! :o
Greetings Cornelius!

Thanks for the link. I have sent them a note asking about when we might see the Ancient Romans for sale here in the US.

You are quite right -- if enough of us write in then maybe, just maybe, they will decide to bring them on over. I know they would be a big hit with my grandson. The figures are just the right size for conducting "Big Battles for Small Hands."

Thanks again.

Point to you sir.

You did that round against the archers all wrong. Big Grin So, did I, the first time - they murdered me!

You have to keep walking, then slash 'n kill them as you encounter them. That'll keep them from firing arrow at ya.
...
Just received an e-mail form Playmobil Customer Service -- the Romans are scheduled to be released in the US this August.

No word on exactly where or at what price point however most of the big retailers have them (Target, TRU, etc) so it would seem a safe bet that the Romans will be there.

How appropriate that the Romans should arrive in the month of Augustus...

Oh well, they could also have opted for July..
