I love the work of Johnny Shumate (forgive me if I am repeating anything). Would love him to reconstruct the Scythian warrior I'm currently working on.

The other artwork posted on here are excellent too (wish I could draw)

Johny has painted some Skythians. I remember at least a horse archer...Though a bit hellenised (with a nice chalkidian helmet)

Such a talented sculpture, he must have take a lot of stick from his contemporaries for that boo-boo!! :lol:

He doesn't have two right arms. He once holded his sword,that might have been bronze or iron,like the spears,and what you see hehind him is the scabard. I've lloked very closely at it,when i was researching about scabards and sword handles. :wink:

I have always liked the miniature's helmet that is based off of that relief (didn't know about the scabbard/spear thing Giannis, laudes to you!), but wasn't there some sort of conclusion or more likely assumption that the crest would would be transverse? Otherwise I think it'd get in the way a bit!

Do you mean you think in the sculpture the crest might had been front-to-back? First,we have inability to depict the profile(especially in crests),for example we also see the face of the shields,not the profile. Second, we have two long tails in the crest, something purposeless and inpractical, and third,the first of the three shielded hoplites has also a trensverse crest,depicted in the same way.Only this time the hair are not wavy and we see that the left tail goes in the other side of the helmet.These are some of the reasons that make me think it is a tranverse crest. Dimitri,is there a way to cut and glue the crest in the oposite way?

yes sure i can do it with the sculpt you sent i think you are right .i just prefer it front and back from an artisticaly way..if i have some time maybe i will do it and post a photo

Hey Gioi, this looks really good, great way for a presentaition. Thanks for the preview.

Like most of us,my time and spece is so limited that I havent yet even started making my aspis.And though I ordered a helmet,I'll have it in about a year and a half.Too much time to wait,so I tried painting my missing equipment
Here is the original photo with the real equipment

I made the outline of the shield in windows' paint

Then painted the colours and details in Adobe image ready.(I don't have photoshop)

I did the same with the helmet.I know,it doesn't look very realistic,but it's one of my few atempts to paint like this,and one of the most successful

I'd rather have someone else paint them for me,to look more real,and someone add a background,but it was fun.
