He Robert, I did get my son to don a Roman uniform (check the website, the moross looking legionair in the seg) but I had to PAY him! You have your kids beter housebroken, it seems  Nice pic!
Pay him? Jeroen comes with us since he was about 3.. Maybe I'll have to pay him when he's 15, but so far, so good! Big Grin

Here he is, 2 years old:

This photo by Aitor reminds me of a one painful thing. You guys can decide for example "Well, there`s nothing particular to do next weekend, maybe I´ll visit the ruins of Numantia". Oh how I envy you sometimes ( you lucky sobs living in an area which was sometimes called the roman empire  )...
Aitor, is that that Roman villa excavation in Belgium?

M.VIB.M.
No Henk, Confusedhock:
It is the ancient city of Veleia (Today Iruña), Basque Country (Spain) Big Grin

Aitor
Ah okay!! it just looked very similar to a dig i once have been to with the gemina...

so was this a carthaginian town by origin?

M.VIB.M.
All archaeological sites look the same...
As far as we know, Carthaginians never reached this point... Before the Romans, Iruña/Veleia was one of the main (if not the main one) cities or 'oppida' of the iron Age Caristians (Carietes, Karistoi...)

Quote:Thanks Duncan. Maybe I'll take the car and try if I can get near the site...

The road surface is made of gravel. Or, as the archaeologist Cees Stoop said: "we've dug up one bloody exiting tray of cat litter".

Looking across the road surface to the profile. Note the remains of a trench below the road surface - this may be a marker trench.
