I got hold of a thick bundle of black horsehair. Is it possible to bleach it?

I want to make a crest with it and prefer to make it white.

Any ideas?
Maybe you could use what women use to bleach their hair??
THanks, Paul. I'll try that.
Does anyone else has some experience in this?
Paul's probably right- plain hypochlorite bleach is very corrosive to organics and you risk destroying the hair if you're not careful. Since companies who produce hair products have a vested interest in NOT destorying hair, that kind of thing should be ideal...
Comes from many years dating punk/goth girls......
Well I've tried it, but to no avail. The hair stays black. :?
What about, and I know the idea will sound repugnent, but 'URINE' Confusedhock: Confusedhock: Confusedhock:
I know it was used to bleach linen and leather, so why not horsehair?

If you can stomace the idea, that is! Smile

Sincerely
PS, if you can't bleach it, what would you want for the horsehair?

Byron
I am not ready to sell it, also it isn' t mine to sell.

The bleaching factor in urine is ammonia, which is also the major ingredient of the bleaching product I used.
Have you tried hydrogen peroxide?

Alternatively buy a white tail!

Try here..

Thanks! What weight would I need to make a crest?
About 2 lbs shoud make a decent crest.

Matt Amt's Legio XX website has a very useful section on helmet crests.
Ah well 8)

Yes, I know. It's just that they use pounds at Crazycrow an I use the metric system. I guess I was too lazy to look it up myself, sorry.

Do you know of any horsehair vendor in Europe? (thinking about taxes and stuf  )
