Hi , Can anybody tell me please What is the easiest way to curve a scutum ? I dont have a Press so is there another way ?

Thanks ,

Paul .
You can strap the two plates against a boiler or a barrel or a thick tree...

Vale,
but a press is better. A press is not hard to make, all that you need is some 1/2" plywood. Cut ribs to the interior curvature and make a box to keep it all together. You can get away with only the lower half of the press and use dry wall screws to hold the birch plywood down while the glue drys. Be careful to keep the press square.
We use a metal oil drum, 2 x 2 boards, and some of those cargo straps. If you want some more info, pm me, and I'll show you some of the pics we've taken of our efforts.

A press is best, but I don't have one right now. So I use that barrel.

Crude but effective.
Thanks for the help lads , Do any of you have any Pics on a Press and how to make one ? might be best in the long run .

Paul .

Salvete,
these are some photos in detail on the reconstruction of one shield from secutor and provocator. As you will see the wood to the overlapped inside and to intercrossed and glue slices. Enough to construct one base with the shape.
Ave, Hephestus,

In scutas suas, quid mensuras et geni ligni usasne?
What size and sort of wood do you use in your scuta?
