I'd like to get involved with Roman re-enacting. I know were to buy everything else (segmentata, caligae, gladius, etc.) but I haven't seen tunics anywhere. Are they available to be bought or should I start looking for tailors?

Thanks.
Hi Adam,

Clothing is always the most difficult to find, and I tell people that it would be the best thing - to personalise your equipment - to try and make it yourself. Or find someone who can help you. When I started with Late Roman re-enactment, there was no possibility to buy any tunics anywhere, so we all had to do it ourselves anyway. Also, there have been some developments in recents years as to what tunics should look like, something that takes a bit of time to find its way to the commercial side. Besides that, personal taste is also something.

This ought to have been placed in the marketplace section, but here goes:
Also, the answer to your question depends on which period you want to re-enact. There are vendors these days for each period, but amount, price and quality differ a lot depending on the period.
There is a re-enactment society near me and they wear the c. 100 C.E. Lorica Segmentata uniforms. They're tunics are red. I have no problem having one made but I don't know where to get the pattern.

BTW: I'm sorry if this is thread is in the wrong section.
Here you go. You should look at the rest of the site as well.

It's worth searching RAT as well where there have been lengthy discussions about the tunic.
Try these threads too. Both are full of usefull information on tunics.
